A piece that is banished to one of the “Sheol” squares can be moved out in the following cases:
When the dice roll result is 3, allowing legal movement to a vacant corner square. An archangel on a “Sheol” square can capture an opponent’s piece located on a corner square, in accordance with the capturing rules for archangels. In that kind of capture, if the captured piece is an archangel, it can be forced into “Sheol” (since archangels must swap positions as in most cases, as previously described).
By using the archangel’s swapping ability: an archangel can swap itself out of “Sheol” with any of the 6 angels that are owned by the same player, and a regular angel can be swapped out of “Sheol” with the archangel of the same player (in the latter case, the archangel is placed in “Sheol” instead of the angel).
When capturing an opponent’s piece on a “Gate of Heaven” and there are no vacant “Sheol” squares to banish that piece to, the capturing player can free an owned piece from “Sheol” and place it anywhere on the board, except the “Gates of Heaven” and the “Throne of God”.
